Even in remote areas around the globe, people who can speak both their own language and English have more job opportunities than their peers.
Tourism outside one's own country is possible because air travel has made a two-week vacation on any continent affordable and possible. Since most people speak English but not necessarily the language of their destination, the need for interpreters has grown exponentially in the past twenty years. Tour guides are invaluable because they keep travelers safe and optimize their valuable vacation time, but having a personal interpreter enhances the experience for everyone.
To train the needed interpreters to help tourists and to open the doors of opportunity, many schools around the world include reading and writing the English language in the curriculum. The students that master the world's most common language have more opportunity for unique employment than their peers. Having a mastery-level understanding of their own language is also highly valued within their own culture because literacy is an important tool in their private lives.
When a young person decides to leave home to attend university, job opportunities in hotels and restaurants are more readily available to those who speak the same language as most tourists. The money from this job allows the student to continue in his studies and move to a professional position in some of the most unique locations in the world. Conversational understanding and communication is essential to landing the best jobs where the public is encountered each day.
The person who can also write the common language effectively will find a world of opportunity in translation jobs on the internet. The talent to master two languages and move freely between them is a valuable skill in any culture. Taking one's own family sight-seeing in another country is made easier because the communication barriers are removed.
Knowing the English language in addition to any other language opens doors for anyone wanting to see the world and make a difference in the lives of others. One language is not superior to another, but rather the people who can use language as an effective tool are able to make a difference in any culture and close the gaps of understanding inherent to the human race.
